The Scottish Storytelling Centre is designed, skilled and equipped to assist you in presenting a first class performance, conference or seminar event. The Centre could be the ideal city centre venue for your meeting, reception or workshop in a unique creative atmosphere.

The Storytelling Centre team

The SpacesNetherbow theatre

 

The Netherbow Theatre

A 99-seat auditorium with fixed raked seating, timber lining, daylight or blackout modes, high specification lighting, projection and amplification. The auditorium is fitted with an infrared hearing loop system.

This intimate yet light space is ideal for literary events, small-scale theatre and music, presentations, conferences and seminars.

 

The George Mackay Brown Library

Seating up to 35, the library is a warm, quality setting for seminars, workshops and meetings. The library has a breakout space for refreshments, with adjacent facilities for storytelling research and resource materials.

 

The Storytelling Court

Situated on street level with spectacular views to the historic closes and gardens of the Netherbow area, the Court is a gracious and spacious reception space, able to accommodate 150 people standing and 100 seated. The Court is available in the evenings and can be used in conjunction with the adjacent café area looking onto the Royal Mile.

 

The Global Stories Bothy

This is a flexible, partially enclosed space within the Court, ideal for informal storytelling sessions for up to 30 school children, or small-group workshops and presentations.

 

John Knox House

This A-listed medieval building is available on a limited basis for small-scale events such as a wine tasting or intimate wedding blessing. Created in its present form by Sir James Mosman, goldsmith to Mary Queen of Scots, the atmospheric house brings you eerily close to the most dramatic events in Scotland's history. A guided tour of the House may be the ideal bonus for those attending your event.

 

Sandeman House

Situated behind the Storytelling Centre and accessed via Trunk’s Close and Baron Maule's Close, Sandeman House is the headquarters of Scottish Book Trust. Sandeman House has a further flat floor space suitable for receptions, readings, workshops and small conferences. The Scottish Storytelling Centre team will work closely with Scottish Book Trust if your event would work best with a combination of spaces within both buildings.

Technical Services

Oscus Media Ltd operate the Centre's on-site technical services. These include lighting, sound and IT support for performances, conferences and events.

In addition, Oscus offer video, DVD, CD Rom and audio production services. John Williams, Director of Oscus Media, is happy to discuss your specific requirements and allocate the correct technical support to make your event a success. Email John.
