    Storyteller
Fergus McNicol tells a wide range of tales including Irish legends of Finn McCool and Cuchulain, Scottish folk tales (especially those telling of the adventures of Wee Jack!), Norse and Greek myths, environmentally themed stories and tales from around the world. He also loves to tell participative stories for younger audiences with plenty of songs and rhymes to join in with. Fergus also forms one half of storytelling duo “Next Goal’s The Winner!” who specialize in writing and performing football and sport themed stories, songs and poems.

Fergus’s lively and humorous style engages younger audiences, teenagers and adults. He also frequently sings songs accompanied by his guitar during performances, which the audience loves to join in with! He finds storytelling to be the ideal way to connect with people, both young and old and believes that each person takes from a tale something that calls out to them personally. He has worked extensively on story-creating projects integrating storytelling with other art forms such as shadow puppetry, model making and environmental art.

Born in Glasgow, Fergus grew up in Cumbernauld and Jedburgh and later lived for periods in the USA and Canada. In his early teens he discovered the tales of Finn McCool and Cuchulain. These tales fired his imagination and, when he was introduced to storytelling round the campfire while working in the USA, he was filled with excitement to tell of the adventures of his heroes to the eager listeners. As a primary school teacher for the past 10 years, Fergus has always incorporated storytelling into his classroom to the delight of his pupils!

Fergus has told tales in many schools and libraries as well as at a variety of festivals including the Edinburgh International Book Festival and The Scottish International Scottish Storytelling Festival. He also enjoys telling tales in the outdoors and in addition to forests and hill tops has told at the Edinburgh Royal Botanic Gardens and the Tramway Hidden Garden in Glasgow. As well as his native Scotland, he has performed in the USA, Sweden and Norway.
