Queen Amang the Heather - Sheila Stewart

Folk music star Sheila Stewart MBE recounts the life of her own mother, Belle Stewart, who was born in a bow tent on the banks of the River Tay and grew up in a Scottish Traveller family. Belle was immersed in the stories and songs told by her family, a background which led to an illustrious career as a folk singer. She and her husband performed all over Europe and the United States, and Belle was eventually awarded a British Empire Medal. Interspersed with the Stewarts’ songs and stories told in Perthshire cant, this biography is an insightful and personal tribute to one of Scotland’s most renowned folk singers, as well as to the rich culture of the travelling people.
